Why did you become an attorney?

I knew I wanted to be an attorney in high school - I considered it the best way to use my talents and skills. Once I entered law school in Columbus, Ohio, my favorite class was my Debtor-Creditor class (bankruptcy).

As a bankruptcy lawyer, I enjoy helping people and counseling them on how to improve their lives through a better understanding of their finances and their use of credit.

What experiences (work and personal) help you to be a better attorney?

Although my undergraduate major was history, I also took business classes in accounting, economics and tax. The information I learned in those classes has been very helpful in my bankruptcy practice. This has helped me in counseling people not only in their present bankruptcy case, but also how they can improve their lives in the future.

I think I am a better bankruptcy attorney because the entire focus of my practice is bankruptcy law. I enjoy helping individuals and families achieve a better quality of life and a more secure future.

What made you choose your primary specialty focus of law?

Practicing bankruptcy law provides me a great deal of satisfaction in knowing I've helped my clients.

I know that when someone is considering bankruptcy as a means to resolving difficult financial matters, it is important to speak with an attorney who fully understands the bankruptcy process and the differences between a Chapter 7 and a Chapter 13 bankruptcy and the impact a bankruptcy will have on someone's personal and financial life.

I want to be certain that they make informed decisions.

What makes your law firm unique?

My clients have access to me because I answer my own telephone at my Columbus office. I make every effort to respond to telephone messages and emails within 24 hours.

I believe in providing my clients with quality legal services in a personal manner.

I will prepare and file all the documents to obtain protection for my clients under the bankruptcy laws, and focus on providing them with the information they need to make good financial decisions.

Describe your ideal client.

My ideal client is someone who will work with me to obtain the information and documents necessary to prepare their case.

Describe your personal interest and hobbies.

I enjoy spending time with my husband and two daughters; hiking, biking and traveling. I love to read and bake.

I also volunteer as an instructor for Credit Abuse Resistance Education (C.A.R.E.), an organization of lawyers who teach high school students about the importance of using credit wisely and avoiding financial pitfalls. As a C.A.R.E. instructor, I teach high school students in Columbus and Central Ohio about financial literacy issues such as student loans, automobile loans, mortgage loans, credit card, credit reports and budgeting.

Describe your charitable activities.

In addition to teaching high school students through the C.A.R.E. program, I am very involved with volunteering at my daughters’ schools. I wrote grants to build a playground at an elementary school; I was also a room parent and served as president of the Parent Teacher Organization.

I started fund-raising programs at my daughter’s schools and taught other parents how to start fund-raising programs for their own children’s schools. I participated in the Race for the Cure for the first time this year, and enjoyed it.

Summary of Previous Employment

I founded my Columbus firm in 2006 with a focus on representing individuals in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases in Central Ohio. My goal is to provide each client with quality legal services in a personal manner. I return phone calls myself, so my clients are guaranteed to speak with a lawyer about their problems, not an assistant or paralegal. I work directly with each client to develop the best possible solution for their individual needs. I have over 20 years experience handling bankruptcy matters for clients whose debt has become unmanageable. I work with my clients to explore the best options under the federal bankruptcy laws that can ease their financial burden.
