Our goal, quite simply, is to help families save their homes. Almost always, the only thing necessary in order to do so is to have a reasonable ability to make a mortgage payment, even if it is less than what is required.

Why did you become an attorney?

Oddly enough, my paternal grandmother made me promise her at 9 years old that I would be an attorney.  She had wanted my father to be an attorney and his life led him to another calling.  I have always kept my promises to my grandmother and had no intention of breaking this one.  Plus, my family always said I could argue and negotiate to get what I thought I wanted.  So, it guess it seemed right.

What experiences (work and personal) help you to be a better attorney?

I am a very logical and mathematical person.  There is an old joke that says attorneys cannot do math.  However, having a mathematics degree and background has helped me to stay organized and to be methodical and rational in my decisions and business in general.  I am also a mother and wife.  I have numerous family and friends that are important to me as well.  These people provide me with the biggest reason for doing what I do – I want to be a role model to my younger friends/family and to show the older ones that I am a person to be trusted and relied upon.  But, I go to work so that I can help provide my children with those things that make them smile.

What made you choose your primary specialty focus of law?

I was fortunate to find a wonderful employer when I first obtained my license.  That employment was in the civil defense setting.  My mentor was a great person who made sure that I knew everything I should know and more in order to accurately and professionally practice law.  I have been just as fortunate to be able to stay in civil practice.

What makes your law firm unique?

The area of law we practice is unique – foreclosure – in that it is always changing, always evolving.  However, not too many lawyers have been able to carve out a niche for foreclosure defense.  From time to time, we may assist our clients with other legal matters, but the majority of our practice is foreclosure defense.  This specialization allows us to most effectively represent those people who are desperate to save their homes.

Describe your ideal client.

An attorney-client relationship is somewhat like a marriage.  There must be trust, truth, cooperation, communication, and understanding.  At times there will be great news and, at other times, not so great news.  It is a strong foundation that allows for a successful relationship.

Describe your personal interest and hobbies.

My children and husband are my life.  My sons are involved in sports, just as my husband and I were when we were younger.  A lot of our time is spent together working on the current season’s sport.  As a family, we ride and race dirt bikes (a sport that I grew up doing with my father and brothers).  As a result, we also camp at the dirt bike track to which we belong.  We have a big group of friends and are all extremely close.  So, we find ourselves with friends a lot.  I play the piano and took 10 years of lessons.

Describe your charitable activities.

I serve as treasurer of the elementary PTO; chair person for the City of Shelby Civil Service Commission; my husband and I give locally – food, clothing and/or toys are given to local charities and foundations.
