What experiences (work and personal) help you to be a better attorney?

Because family law issues can extend to all aspects of a person's life, almost all life experiences help to make me a better attorney in this area. For example, a good family law attorney must have an understanding of various financial matters, family dynamics, child issues, health issues, competition, empathy, and stress because these are some of the issues facing our clients.

What made you choose your primary specialty focus of law?

Coming in to law school, I was not familiar with family law. Once I had an opportunity to learn about the issues and then work in family law, I loved it. Every day offers the opportunity to help someone during a difficult time of their life, and the variety of the factual and legal issues is professionally stimulating and rewarding.

What makes your law firm unique?

Our firm is a group of good-natured people who enjoy helping others, doing it with joy and enthusiasm, and doing it the right way. We work as a team on every case. When a client entrusts our firm to help them, they don't hire a single attorney. All of our attorneys, paralegals, and staff are familiar with all of our cases and work collaboratively to bring the client the highest level of service, expertise, and professionalism that we can offer. Our firm uses the latest technologies for prompt response times, timely and clear communications, and to reduce costs and better the experience for our clients. We frequently handle high-value, complex, and difficult cases.

Describe your personal interest and hobbies.

My wife and two daughters are my best friends, pride, and joy. Nearly all of my personal time is spent with them, and usually involves activities for my daughters or running and playing golf. While the practice of law has all but destroyed my previously average golf game, I still enjoy the game that I had the opportunity to play in college. I am the Head Chef of our house, and I take that job seriously on the weekends. When our family gets the opportunity to get away, it is usually to Hilton Head Island, which feels like our home away from home.

Describe your charitable activities.

Our firm is a strong supporter of Pelotonia and Smile Train. We have raised thousands by riding in and volunteering for Pelotonia, which supports The James Cancer Center and Solove Research Institute at The Ohio State University Medical Center. We will be participating again this year.  We also support Smile Train, which provides cleft surgeries for children.
