Why did you become an attorney?

I became a lawyer because I wanted to help ordinary families protect their children and navigate the legal issues they face. I started my own legal practice so that I could provide services the way I think is right and best, and so that I could have the flexibilty to remain affordable for my clients.

What experiences (work and personal) help you to be a better attorney?

I have experience helping single parents, married couples, unmarried couples, grandparents, extended families, foster parents, legal custodians, and legal guardians put their families together and protect their children. I have experience with all of types of legal services someone might need to create a family, including custody litigation, domestic relations, adoptions, surrogacy, egg donation, and sperm donation. I also have experience assisting families with estate plans that protect and provide for spouses, minor children, and extended families. I have experienced infertility in my own personal life, and understand how heartbreaking and frustrating that can me for families.

What makes your law firm unique?

If you are looking for a competent, down-to-earth, nonjudgmental partner in your legal matter we will work well together. Our office is causal and low-key and we work to make our clients comfortable and at-ease. You can expect prompt, caring attention throughout your case.

Describe your ideal client.

My ideal client is someone looking for a competent, caring partner in their legal matter.

Describe your personal interest and hobbies.

As an old soul I enjoy cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, knitting, and taking care of my pets, which include four dogs, two guinea pigs, nine fish. I recently took a class at a local small business and I'm on my way to becoming a bona fide quilter. I am also looking forward to a delivery of dahlia corms from a local growner, and then lots of beautiful flowers in my garden this summer.

Describe your charitable activities.

I have been a volunteer guardian ad litem for children in foster care and under protective supervision with CASA of Franklin County since 2011, and I continue that pro bono work to this day. I also occassionally assist with training new CASA volunteers. After many years as a volunteer at the Franklin County Dog Shelter, my family and I began fostering homeless dogs in 2016 through I Have a Dream Rescue Organization.

Summary of Firm

At the Obenour Legal Group, LLC you or your family works directly with attorney Abbie Obenour throughout your case. Our team offers service based on how we want to be treated.

Our practice is devoted to providing clarity in the legal areas of adoption, surrogacy, divorce, estate planning, probate, elder law, and more. Our firm is one of a handful that focuses on the unique issues that affect unmarried couples and LGBT families.

Free Initial Consultation?

We offer a free half hour consultation to all of our new clients in order to have the chance to get to know one another and see if we are able to help.

Typical Retainer Fees

Retainers are set on an individual basis after we have met and I have evaluated the issues involved in your particular situation. For example, typical dissolution retainer is $1500, but could be higher if your case has complicating factors like minor children.

Fixed-Price Services and Fees

Estate planning services are charged on a flat-fee basis, and each document has its own rate. For example, a Last Will and Testament costs $300.00. Your total fee will be calculated based on the documents you select to be part of your plan.

Fees by Hourly Rate

Adoptions, estate administration services, divorce and dissolution, custody litigation, surrogacy and gestational carrier arrangements, small business services, guardianships, and other matters are billed at an hourly rate. We strive to be as affordable as possible. Hourly rates vary from $175 to $225. Adoptions from public agencies often qualify for financial assistance from state-provided assistance for non-recurring adoption expenses, and may be free of charge for the adoptive parents.
